Fred A. Stahl

Fred Stahl was born in New York City and grew up in the New York metropolitan area. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois in 1973. Subsequently, he was a professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Columbia University in New York. His areas of specialization include Computer Security and Computer Forensics with an emphasis on encryption technology and decryption of data. He has served as an expert witness in many cases, both criminal and civil, state and federal, and domestic and international. Additionally, he served as a UNESCO advisor in Latin America to governmental agencies and Universities for the development of technical education. He is particularly interested in the Industrial Revolution in Britain during the 18th and 19th Centuries and is an avid collector of mechanical computing devices from this period up to the point when electronics were introduced.
