David Swartz

Retired from full-time teaching, I am now visiting researcher in the sociology department at Boston University. My book, Symbolic Power, Politics, and Intellectuals: The Political Sociology of Pierre Bourdieu (University of Chicago Press, 2013) was co-winner of the 2014 American Sociological Association History of Sociology Section Best Book Award. My 1997 book Culture and Power: The Sociology of Pierre Bourdieu (University of Chicago Press, 1997) continues to be one of the most internationally cited works on that French sociologist. My research interests include social theory, education, culture, stratification, and political sociology.
