J.E. Fison is no stranger to danger...
I'm the first to admit that being an international adventurer has its tricky moments: like the time I was camping in Africa and woke up to find two male elephants fighting outside the tent. 'Mind the tins of baked beans would you guys!' Then there was the time I was on a night-time safari and the open-top jeep broke down, just as a pride of lions decided to start their hunt!
In the jungles of Borneo I once shook hands with an orangutan. I didn't mean to and I don't recommend it; they're much stronger than you think. I've also eaten a lot of things that I wish I hadn't. Wok-fried grasshoppers taste just like they look and rat soup tastes even worse than it sounds. But I'm not complaining. I love an adventure, even if it comes with a side order of raw jellyfish.
I've written the Hazard River series for everyone who loves an adventure. I hope you enjoy reading the series as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Review of the Hazard River series by Pat Pledger, ReadPlus:
"Told in the first person by Jack Wilde, the stories are full of humour, imagination and adventure. Add some sibling rivalry between Jack and his brother Ben, teasing from his neighbour Lachlan, and information from Mimi Fairweather, otherwise known as Professor Bigbrains, and the series is a winner. Fison's message about the environment and endangered species is handled with a gentle but deft hand and is sure to appeal to children.
I can see reluctant as well as more advanced readers lapping up this funny series. Although the story is told from a boy's point of view, Mimi is a strong enough personality to appeal to girls as well. All in all, this series is a welcome addition to chapter books for young readers."
Review by Oz Kids in Print:
"Totally awesome reading ... Loved the action on every page. I couldn't put it down. More Hazard River books please. For all kids who love playing the hero."
Review by Bug in a Book:
"I love the characters, they are fun and believable, the adventure is perfect for this age group and the story keeps you interested all the way till the end. A good choice for tweens, and even the reluctant readers could be turned with this one. It flows well and with plenty of humor and action it is sure to impress. I would definitely recommend this book, and indeed this series."
