David Brauner is Professor of Contemporary Literature at The University of Reading (UK), where he teaches courses in contemporary fiction, literature and ethnicity and the graphic novel. He is the co-editor (with Axel Staehler) of The Edinburgh Companion to Modern Jewish Fiction (Edinburgh University Press, 2015) and the author of four books: Post-War Jewish Fiction: Ambivalence, Self-Explanation and Transatlantic Connections (Palgrave/Macmillan, 2001), Philip Roth (Manchester University Press, 2007), Contemporary American Fiction (Edinburgh University Press, 2010) and Howard Jacobson (Manchester University Press, 2020). He has co-edited a special Lorrie Moore issue of The Journal of American Studies (with Heidi MacPherson) and a special issue of Jewish Culture and History (with Nathan Abrams) on the interface between contemporary Black and Jewish culture. He was Executive Co-Editor (with Deb Shostak) of the peer-reviewed journal Philip Roth Studies from 2014-2019. His essays have appeared in a wide range of journals, including The Journal of American Studies, The Yearbook of English Studies, Studies in the Novel, Modern Language Review, Canadian Literature and Studies in American Jewish Literature.
