I wrote it exactly as it happened: a shattering eight weeks with Judy Garland, trying to rescue her from her demons.

It's called Heartbreaker, was re-issued in 2006 by Kensington. Her brilliant persona, her humor and ironic attitudes, her mercurial, silverfish mentality, all these were burned into me with such branding-iron heat that her character simply cried out to be put on the page in something new. So here it is:

In my new book, Judy is the heroine of a WWII thriller -Operation Ruby Slipper. Twenty-one year old Judy is dropped behind German lines by the OSS in 1943. She's to bring back a photo of an elusive Nazi physicist whose work on nuclear-powered U-Boats threatens the invasion of Normandy. The only lead the army has to this scientist, Kintner, is a fan letter he wrote to MGM in 1940 asking for her picture. I've been able to virtually 'channel' Judy's every reaction...and specifically, her marvelous, wry voice. A fascinating experiment. I'm eager to see how readers will respond.
