Darrell Delamaide is a journalist, writer, editor and author of three previously published books -- two nonfiction books and the financial thriller Gold.
Delamaide has reported from five continents. He lived in Europe, in France and Germany, for many years and visited virtually every country on the continent. His travels have also taken him to several countries in the Middle East, to Australia, and to South Africa, Ivory Coast and Morocco.
His latest work, The Grand Mirage, grew out his reporting on Deutsche Bank, which played a major role in financing the Baghdad Railway. A history of the bank written for its 125th anniversary recounted the saga of building the railway. The story leapt off the pages for Delamaide, transporting him back to a world of Great Power rivalry, imperial intrigue and the exotic Orient. It's that vision that The Grand Mirage captures.
Delamaide has also reissued his financial thriller, Gold, long out of print. Library Journal called it a "superlative tale" when it was originally published and Publishers Weekly labeled it "high-stakes excitement."
