JOHN EMMERLING

At the University of Michigan John studied architecture, drew cartoons, and wrote gag lines for Hallmark Cards. This odd mix of skills led to advertising where he became an award-winning copywriter at Young & Rubicam. Moving on, he founded his own ad agency and ran it successfully for many years.

His first book was published by Simon & Schuster, "It Only Takes One: How To Create the Right Idea—And Then Make it Happen." It was republished by S&S in 2016.

John’s latest book, "WoofiLeaks—Your Dog’s Secrets Revealed," was inspired by carefully watching (and communicating with) his dog Max, a wise old standard poodle. With cartoons and rhymes Max spills dozens of long-held canine secrets including:

-- Why do dogs sniff hydrants?

-- Why do dogs love the beach?

-- Why do dogs want to sleep in your bed?

-- Do dogs think they look like their owners?

-- Can old dogs learn new tricks?

-- Will your dog ever stop loving you?

Among Max's many fans are singer Rosanne Cash, New Yorker cartoonist Roz Chast, actor John Lithgow, cartoonist Jules Feiffer, novelist Warren Adler, and cartoonist Mike Peters.
