Anne Dimock

Anne Dimock is the author of AGAINST THE GRAIN, the compelling novel about what befalls six characters and their staid community when they confront the prejudice in their town.

Dimock grew up in a community similar to the fictional Jamestown, New Jersey, and experienced some of the events in this book. Motivated to more deeply explore the constraints of the early 1960s—curriculum tracking in public schools, desegregation and its protests, the challenge of Vatican II to Catholic faith—Dimock takes an incidence of civil rights protest and creates a fictional backstory for it.

Dimock is also the author of a nonfiction memoir—HUMBLE PIE—Musings on What Lies Beneath the Crust. What was it like to grow up in a family that made over 100 apple pies each year? Dimock creates an alternative reality where everything has to do with a good piece of pie. HUMBLE PIE looks through the lens of a kaleidoscope of pies and finds the answer to a unique American longing. Garrison Keillor calls her “The Proust of Pie.”

Dimock also writes plays, operas, essays and short stories. She has published in print and online journals, had her plays produced, and won awards and residencies. She had an educational background in Anthropology and a long career raising money in the nonprofit sector. She resides in Croton-on-Hudson, New York. Her website is https://www.annedimock.com.
