R. M. Ryan (Rick to his friends) grew up in Wisconsin, attended college in Iowa, and studied poetry at the University of Arkansas and Washington University in St. Louis. During the Vietnam era he was a black market investigator in the U. S. Army in Germany and later wrote a novel based on that experience called THERE'S A MAN WITH A GUN OVER THERE. After a career in business in Milwaukee, he moved to the Sonoma coast of California to be a full-time writer. He lives near Jenner with his wife, biographer Carol Sklenicka, and his black dog, Alexis Lynn. He has two children, Robert Ryan and Katherine Ryan, and two grandchildren. His most recent book, THE LOST ROADS ADVENTURE CLUB, is his third from LSU Press.
