Rose Miller

Rose Miller has spent a lifetime learning from the horses, mules, dogs, and people who shaped her world—from running barefoot on her family's Pennsylvania farm as a child, to managing a Tennessee Walking Horse farm in Indiana, and now riding the trails around Prescott, Arizona.

Her books, including The Horse That Wouldn't Trot, Mules, Mules and More Mules, Always Have a Dog in Your Life, and the two-volume Girls Can Be Cowboys Too! series, grow from that lifelong journey. They are heartfelt true stories that invite readers into the barn aisle, around the campfire, and into the lives of spirited animals and remarkable people—partners, teachers, and friends who have left their mark.

Rose always wanted to be a veterinarian, but storytelling became her true calling—and her way of honoring the deep bonds between people and animals, as well as the independent, determined characters who continue to shape the American West.

Her conversational style and genuine love of animals, people, and the Western way of life have also led to interviews and podcasts, including a featured conversation with Reader's House, where she shares more about her life, her inspirations, and the women whose stories inspired Girls Can Be Cowboys Too!

Rose is especially pleased that her books can give back as well. Proceeds are donated to small, independent animal welfare groups, helping support animals who need a second chance.
