Anita M. Harris is a writer, photographer and communications consultant who lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Early in her career, she helped found the "Harrisburg Independent Press" (aka "HIP") and later reported for "The Real Paper"; the "Boston Phoenix"; WRFM Radio, and "MacNeil/Lehrer"(now "The Newshour") of PBS. She is the author of three nonfiction books: "Broken Patterns, Professional Women and the Quest for a New Feminine Identity," a social history of modern women in relation to their mothers and grandmothers; "Ithaca Diaries," a memoir of college in the late 1960s; and "The View From Third Street," which tells the story of her experiences founding a weekly alternative newspaper in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Anita has also published several books of her own photography--most recently, "Pandemic Journey," which was featured in gallery and museum shows. A graduate of Cornell University and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, Anita completed a Nieman Fellowship at Harvard--and has taught writing and journalism at Harvard, Yale, Tufts, and Simmons Universities. As the founding director of the Harris Communications Group, Anita has won numerous awards for her work as a communications consultant health, science and technology arena. She can often be seen jogging along the Charles River, and, when pressed, will admit that her favorite sport is shopping. She is not to be confused with the British Rock star--nor with an Australian feminist author-- who happen to share the same name.
