Peter Morton Coan is the award-winning author of Toward A Better Life; the critically acclaimed biography, Taxi: The Harry Chapin Story; the generational novel, The Last Baby Boomer; the bestselling book of immigration history, Ellis Island Interviews: In Their Own Words—the definitive work about Ellis Island and the immigrants who passed through it—and, most recently, his very own story about adoption and Christian faith, Finding Martha. His work has appeared in Time, The New York Times, Travel & Leisure and many other publications.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, the author was adopted and raised by an affluent Jewish family in Manhattan. After graduating high school he befriended singer-songwriter Harry Chapin offering to write his biography. Like the movie "Almost Famous"—he went on to spend the next seven years traveling with Chapin and his band all the while attending college—the State University of New York at Buffalo and later Boston University. He was the Executive Editor of World Tennis magazine and Boating Industry magazine. He lives in New York and has two daughters.
