CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: Organized in October 1862 as a nine-month regiment, the 12th R.I. Infantry was not posted in defense of Washington as most other such regiments were. Instead, the regiment joined in operations against the Confederates in multiple locations. They participated in the Battle of Fredericksburg, joined Burnside's second Campaign, and the famous "Mud March .
