Steven E. Alford

Steven E. Alford is Professor Emeritus of Humanities at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He received a B.A. in the Humanities Honors Program at the University of Texas, Austin, in 1973. He received an M.A. (1978) and Ph.D. (1982) in Comparative Literature at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and, in 1980-1981 was a Fulbright Scholar at Albert Ludwigs Universität in Freiburg.

His areas of research and teaching include early German and English Romanticism, Film Criticism and Theory, and American Literature, in particular the Contemporary American Novel and the work of Paul Auster. More recently, he has published work on motorcycle culture, including work published in _The Literature of Travel and Exploration: An Encyclopedia_ and _Harley-Davidson and Philosophy_ as well as articles and reviews for _Motorcycle Consumer News_. In Summer 2009 he, Suzanne Ferriss and German colleagues curated an exhibit at Trier, Germany's European Art Academy on "Motorcycles, Acceleration, and Rebellion" (http://www.motorcycle-trier.de/index1.html).
