Born in Malaysia, I have lived for twelve years of my life in Southeast Asia (Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Cambodia). I have also lived in France and the United Kingdom. A graduate of Swarthmore College (BA (Honors)), I have advanced degrees from the University of Hawai'i (MA) and Cornell (MA, PhD). I am currently Professor of History and International Affairs at George Washington University, where I teach and research in Southeast Asian history.
