Peter J. Silzer

My fascination with language started in childhood when I wanted to learn more about my German-language background. I took Latin and German in high school and in college, then added Hebrew and Greek, ending up as a Greek major for my B.A. In 1971 I encountered linguistics at a Summer Institute of Linguistics intensive course and began my life-long search for all things linguistic.

After 18 years of field work in Asia, I taught university courses in linguistics and translation for 13 years. During this time I learned of the struggles students had trying to learn Hebrew and Greek at the seminary level and began discussions with Dr. Tom Finley that resulted in our 2004 publication "How Biblical Languages Work."
