Growing up in a small town in Nebraska, I noticed early on that people were primarily interested in whom to blame and how to punish them. They had little interest in how to prevent problems by timely interventions. Then I picked up the Dao De Jing by Lao Zi and discovered a kindred spirit. If you get scratched because you petted Kitty from tail to head, whose fault is that?
