Born and raised in the Philadelphia area, I worked in the automotive repair business to put myself through school. I worked with my father at our family outdoor power equipment business for 10 years, honing my craft. In 1990 I accepted a job as an small engine trainer for the Briggs & Stratton Corporation. Rising through the ranks to manage the Customer Education department in 1994. After a short stint inventing various computer based projects such as interactive CD's and a global extranet for the company working in our IT department, I returned to my roots accepting the position of Director of Business Development and Customer Education for the company.
The Small Engines textbook was written to fill a void in our industry which commonly focused on the repair procedures for small engines. There was nothing in the industry which explained in a scientific, theoretical manner, the various dynamics of small engine operation. The book took 1 year to develop and is on its third update. It is used across North America in secondary and post-secondary education from vocational schools to universities. In some cases it is the foundation to a small engines class but is also commonly used for first year mechanical engineering students at various colleges and universities of all sizes and locations.
