Mark C. Childs

Emeritus Professor Mark C. Childs is the author of Foresight and Design: Composing Future Places (Routledge 2023), NM Historic Preservation award-winning Zeon Files: The Art and Design of Historic Route 66 Signs, with Ellen Babcock (UNM Press 2016); the 2013 EDRA book award winning Urban Composition (Princeton Architectural Press 2012), a Planetizen 2005 top ten book Squares: A Public Place Design Guide (UNM 2004), and Parking Spaces (McGraw-Hill 1999). He lectures on these topics internationally.

He also has published science fiction poetry, a newspaper column, and journal articles.

He runs STREET, a design consulting practice. Mark's interest is the civil roles of architecture - the design of public space, public art, street installations and events, public works, non-profit and community projects, and the composition of cities. In 2005, Mark was a Fulbright Scholar in Cyprus.
