Colin Heydt is a professor of philosophy at the University of South Florida. He writes about the history of ethics and political philosophy, with particular focus on 17th through 19th century Britain and the work of John Locke, David Hume, Adam Smith, Jeremy Bentham, and John Stuart Mill. His work has been supported by fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Council of Learned Societies, the Institute for Advanced Study (School of Historical Studies), and the Howard Foundation. He grew up in Neptune, New Jersey and now lives in Atlanta.
