Deborah E. Barker is Professor of English at the University of Mississippi. Her areas of teaching and research include American and southern literature, gender and film theory, and southern film. Barker has published essays on the literature of Alice Walker, Kate Chopin, and William Faulkner, and on filmic adaptations of Gone with the Wind, Sanctuary, and Requiem for a Nun, as well as on Tyler Perry’s Madea films, and the southern chick flick.
