Janice Brown

Janice Brown, is a retired English professor and a specialist in the work of C. S. Lewis and Dorothy L Sayers. She also lectures on T. S. Eliot and other Christian writers. She received her Ph.D. from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1994.

Her Kent State University Press publication The Seven Deadly Sins in the Work of Dorothy L. Sayers was a finalist for the Edgar Alan Poe Award in 1998. In 2018 Kent State University Press published her even more comprehensive book The Lion in the Waste Land: Fearsome Redemption in the Work of C. S. Lewis, Dorothy L. Sayers, and T. S. Eliot.

Dr. Brown taught English Literature at Grove City College in northwest Pennsylvania, for twenty-one years until her retirement in 2015. She has also taught short courses on literature to seminary students, at Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge, PA.

Dr. Brown served on the board of C. S. Lewis and Inklings Society for a number of years, and was in charge of hosting conferences for that organization at Grove City College in 2008 and 2015. She has given numerous conference papers on C. S. Lewis, and was in February 2019 guest speaker for the Eliot Society in Washington DC. In February 2019, at the request of Faith Academy, a Classical Christian School in Kansas City, Missouri, Dr. Brown developed and led a 3-hour workshop on TEACHING POETRY IN CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS. This workshop and the poetry curriculum associated with it are available to those interested.

Janice Brown is a Canadian (born, raised, and educated in Newfoundland) with permanent residence in the US. She lives in Mercer, Pennsylvania with her husband Cliff.
