James Willwerth

James Willwerth (1943-2020) studied journalism at UC Berkeley and worked as a TIME Magazine correspondent from 1966 to 1999. He covered seven wars and specialized in social and political analysis and investigative stories such as death row innocence claims and mental illness. Postings included San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Saigon, Mexico City, and Bangkok. His public recognition reflected the breadth of his work and included awards from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association over the National Alliance on Mental Illness to the National Association of Black Journalists.
