Barbara B. Levin

Barbara Levin was a Professor in the Department of Teacher Education and Higher Education (TEHE) at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) from 1993 to 2018. She was also an elementary school teacher for 17 years prior to earning her Ph.D. at the University of California-Berkeley in 1993. While at UNCG Dr. Levin served as the Director of the Teachers Academy, was the assistant department chair and director of graduate studies in TEHE for many years. She received the first Mentoring-Advising-Supervising (MAS) Award in the School of Education in 2008 and was honored with the School of Education's Inspiring Educator’s Award in 2019. Dr. Levin also served as an Associate Editor for Teacher Education Quarterly for 8 years, and was co-PI on a 5-year, $1.4 million National Professional Development grant from the Dept. of Education called TESOL for ALL. Her research interests include: understanding how teachers’ pedagogical beliefs develop across their careers; case-based teaching; problem-based learning (PBL); universal design for learning (UDL); and leading, teaching, and learning with technology. Dr. Levin published nine books and over 40 articles in well-respected research journals. In her retirement, Barbara has been writing fiction, learning Spanish, teaching citizenship classes, and offering free English classes through the Real World English program, which she helped found in 2015. She also likes to cook, read, and travel.
