Stephen V. Masse was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He wrote his first practice novel at age 13, handwritten into a school composition book.
He studied at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and during one semester wrote a weekly column called "Out of Control" for the student newspaper. He spent several additional years in Amherst writing short stories and books. His first novel for children, SHADOW STEALER, was published by Dillon Press in 1988. When not writing he works as a home remodeling contractor in the Boston area.
His novel for children, THE TASTE OF SNOW (Good Harbor Press, hardcover 2012, paperback and e-book 2025) , was awarded Honorable Mention in the 2011 New England Book Festival, the 2012 New York Book Festival, and the 2012 London Book Festival, and the 2013 Paris Book Festival, as well as the 2015 Holiday Book Festival. THE TASTE OF SNOW is also published in German under the title, DER GESCHMACK VON SCHNEE (Good Harbor Press, paperback and e-book 2024).
His latest novel for children is THE LAST NEWSBOY (Good Harbor Press, paperback and e-book 2024).
In addition to children's books, Masse has written CHRISTMAS RANSOM (Good Harbor Press, paperback and e-book 2025).
