Joan Abramson

Joan Abramson was born and raised in Los Angeles. She received her undergraduate degree in English and masters in Journalism from UCLA. She has worked as a reporter and editor, taught journalism and English at the University of Hawaii, served as COO of a San Francisco based startup and worked as a consultant on US government and United Nations studies of Asian and Pacific Island communication needs. She has authored eight books. Two of her books focus on gender discrimination: The Invisible Woman, Discrimination in the Academic Profession, covers her own discrimination complaint against the university for which she worked. Old Boys, New Women, focuses on discrimination in the professional workplace. She has just completed a biography of her husband, Norman Abramson titled Spreading Aloha-The Man who Enabled Our Wireless World.
