Martha W. Murphy

Martha W. Murphy is an award-winning author and editor, and books are her passion. Her first book was published in 1991 and since then she has written or co-written scores of magazine articles and books. As a writer, she is interested in a range of topics including food and the people who bring it to us; life in remote places; our relationships with animals; human health and wellness; arts & crafts; memoir; self-help; and business.

In addition to writing her own books, Martha is regularly engaged by literary agents, publishing house editors, and professionals from diverse occupations to help develop a book concept, write a book proposal, polish a book manuscript, or co-author a book.

She has worked as a writing instructor at the University of Rhode Island’s Harrington School of Communication and Media, and taught in the continuing education program at Brown University. Since 2007, she has served on the faculty for the annual Harvard Medical School-sponsored CME course, Writing, Publishing, and Social Media for Healthcare Professionals. During her 18 years as head of marketing and communications for a healthcare system, her work received multiple awards from the New England Society for Healthcare Communications, and from Aster.

Her favorite place to be is outside, and in or near the ocean.
