Merom Klein

Merom Klein PhD is a business psychologist with 30+ years of experience advising leadership teams to PowerUP Brilliance and profit from innovation. He is an expert on showing business and public agency leaders how to build courage to overcome adversity, accelerate strategy-execution and thrive in complex and turbulent business conditions

Merom currently serves as Director of Courage International - a US/Israel leadership and innovation acceleration collaboration. Courage offers a suite of solutions for C-suite leaders driving innovation and strategy-execution in matrix structures and cross-functional teams, for HR executives managing the investment in leadership and change-acceleration, and for innovation consultants using proven tools.

He also serves as Adjunct Professor of Business Communication at Temple University, as a Mentor for Keiretsu Forum Mid Atlantic, Chair of the International Executives Subgroup of Greater Philadelphia Senior Executives Group and Committee CoChair for Philadelphia-Israel Chamber of Commerce.

"The heart of innovation," as Merom calls it, is the way a team faces complexity, turbulence, uncertainty or adversities in their business environment - to power up creativity, possibility thinking, sharpen-everyone-up generative solutions and focuses squarely on what adds value and addresses the unmet needs. That's the key shortage that many CEOs see, when they scan the talent pool in their organisations. But the gap often isn't a shortage of smart capable people - it's the courage, resilience, grit and engagement they need to power it up and get the most from that potential.

The 5 Courage Activators, which Merom and his team discovered in their research and fieldwork, are the core behaviours that make some teams luckier than others, more prolific generating solutions than others and that make some enterprises more successful than others - in complex and turbulent business environments. This is the "success culture" described in PowerUp Brilliance - and that he equips team leaders to instil in their teams.

In his workshops and consulting engagements, Merom often criticises the top-down approach to change-leadership and etrategy-exeuction that's featured in many business books. "Those at the top provide the oxygen and the fuel," he says, "But it's the leaders in the middle who provide the spark and power innovation and who lift teams out of fear, paralysis, reluctance or conflict-averse overly-nice issue-avoidance and into real generative thinking."

PowerUP Brilliance is Merom's newest book, co-authored with Dr Louise Yochee Klein. It builds on the insights, ideas and research that he and Professor Rod Napier described in Courage to Act -- and applies them to the innovation challenges that teams face in matrix structures, global alliances, and in ad-hoc cross-functional agile flat diverse teams.

Merom earned his PhD in Organizational Behavior and Leadership at Temple University, Philadelphia USA
