Marc has a Ph.D. in American history. He has six books to his credit and has written articles for the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and other publications. He was formerly the executive director of the New Jersey Historical Commission and is currently a lecturer in the History Department at Rutgers University.
Marc has been described by the New York Times as "the eminent New Jersey historian." He is the coeditor of the award-winning ENCYCLOPEDIA OF NEW JERSEY and author of THERE'S MORE TO NEW JERSEY THAN THE SOPRANOS. He has been interviewed on the History Channel and National Public Radio.
His most recent book (his sixth) is PROHIBITION GANGSTERS: THE RISE AND FALL OF A BAD GENERATION, published by the Rutgers University Press. The New York Times says of the book, "Marc Mappen, who teaches at Rutgers, proves an adept story teller as he takes readers beyond Boardwalk Empire."
