Avis Rumney, LMFT, is a master therapist and award winning author with over 30 years of experience helping people with relationship issues, codependency and emotional eating.She works as a psychotherapist in private practice in Corte Madera, California. She specializes in family therapy, food addiction and codependency. Avis is dedicated to fostering recovery for families and individuals, and supporting them to grow and flourish.
Avis was born in Connecticut, grew up in Illinois, attended college and graduate school in Massachusetts and New York City, lived on Cape Cod and in Hawaii, then found her home in Northern California. Her professional writing -- articles, book chapters and books -- focuses on recovery, including her own 17-year struggle with anorexia and her journey to health. Her illness and her path to recovery has given Avis personal insight into the internal world of those struggling with food and body image issues, as well as to those grappling with other addictions and compulsions.
Avis brings to her life, work and writing her experience and compassion borne of a lifelong pursuit of wellness for people and for the planet.
