Robert L. Buchanan

Robert is originally from a small town in Kentucky. He holds degrees in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from the University of Kentucky and in Math/Physics (BS) from Georgetown. He also earned a Life Teaching Credential in the field of Data Processing from the State of California. Robert is a 6 year veteran of the U.S. Navy.

His professional career began with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in Denver, first as a Civil Engineering Programmer, then as manager of the Bureau's Programming Branch in Sacramento. He then became Head of the Management Sciences training Institute with the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) in San Francisco. While there he built their computer seminar curriculum from a handful of courses to the largest regional IT training program in the Federal Government with over a million dollar budget. As a result of his accomplishments he was flown to the State Department in Washington where he received OPM's award for Superior Performance.

After leaving OPM, Robert formed his own business, RLB & Associates, presenting public and private sector computer seminars - plus developed database management systems software. Contracts included the State of California Computer Training Center and the REECO, Inc. that managed the Nevada nuclear test site. Robert is also a semi-pro photographer and markets his work in various venues.

Throughout his career Robert has been active in adjunct teaching and Public Speaking training. He is a past President of the Sacramento Golden West Toastmasters Club and a graduate and then instructor with the Dale Carnegie Public Speaking and Human Relations courses.

Robert has done adjunct teaching at Golden Gate University in San Francisco where he held a second level adjunct teaching credential plus also taught computer science at Merritt College in Oakland and American River College in Sacramento.

He has authored three college textbooks in dBASE programming plus has twice presented technical papers at Borland's international developers conferences. His software package, RV Space Manager is written in dBASE PLUS and is marketed across the US, Canada, and Mexico.
