Gerald Seaman was born in Norwood, Massachusetts in 1937 and attended Boston University, graduating in 1963 after a two-year tour in the US Army.
His first serious jobs were in the Boston Publishing houses of Little, Brown and Houghton Mifflin where he was a writer, editor and adman. He worked with well-known authors, including Issac Asimov and James Dickey. Up through the 60s and 70s, Trade Book publishing was considered "a gentleman's business," meaning it was not as cutthroat then as it seems today.
But at the end of the 70s, he tired of wining and dining authors and wanted to go out on his own. He left Houghton Mifflin to write, edit and publish a small-town weekly newspaper. For Gerald, it was a vocation of unrequited love. He sold it after publishing 254 issues.
In 1984 Gerald founded a publishing company with his stepson, Tim Collins. Their first office was in Tim's bedroom. But the company grew rapidly over the years and developed a good reputation. That company is now EBSCO Publishing, located in Ipswich and Topsfield, Massachusetts. Gerald retired from EBSCO Publishing in the late 90s and Tim Collins continues as its president.
Gerald and his wife, Carol, spend their retirement years between Florida and Massachusetts. Gerald spends a great deal of time doing what he loves best -- writing. His current project is the third volume of a trilogy of adventure suspense novels. The first two, "Naked Greed" and "Cunning Killer," have been published on Amazon as quality paperbacks and ebooks.
