Lady McCrady

'Lady McCrady' aka 'Lady Mac Rady' in Paris, a contemporary New York artist and author, was first known as a 21-year-old book illustrator and NY editorial artist. Her illustrations celebrated the diversity of the US population in the best-selling children's cookbook 'Kids Are Natural Cooks' (Houghton Mifflin 1976). She illustrated the Feminist Press bilingual 'Mi Mama La Cartera’; and 'Roller Coaster Kid' by jazz poet Barry Wallenstein; plus books for Knopf, Dial Press, Morrow, and Harper/Crowell.

Her editorial work appeared in major magazines and news sources like GQ, Redbook, New York Times, The Daily News Sunday and Manhattan covers for Clay Felker and Milton Glaser.

Lady McCrady next achieved notice for large figure and fire paintings when Andy Warhol curated her into downtown shows and profiled her in Interview magazine. For her 1985-6 East Village and Paris gallery shows, Warhol appeared with his entourage. He stayed all night at the 'Les Enfants du Paradis' installations 'Under the Water Tower' she threw on her rooftop at 17 Park Avenue, curated by Olivier Renaud Clement and covered by the Paris and NY media.

Both her parents were jazz musicians, a vocalist and a trumpet band leader. As a child, the three moved often after a tragic event. BFA Syracuse University VPA, MFA painting, Hunter College CUNY.
