Helen Hoffner

If you can write your name in Palmer Method and recite catechism questions, you probably attended a Catholic school. Dr. Helen Hoffner is a proud graduate of Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has served as an elementary teacher and reading specialist in Catholic schools and is currently a professor at Holy Family University. Dr. Hoffner is the author of The Cross: A Universal Symbol ( Marian Press, 2024), Catholicism Everywhere (Sophia Institute Press, 2022), Catholic Traditions and Treasures (Sophia Institute Press, 2018), and The Rosary Collector's Guide (Schiffer Publishing, 2013) as well as four books for teachers: Literacy Lessons K-8 (Corwin Press, 2010), The Elementary Teacher's Digital Toolbox (Pearson Merrill-Prentice Hall, 2006), Reading and Writing Mysteries in Grades 4-8, (Teacher Created Materials, 2006) and A Look at Realistic Fiction (Teacher Created Materials, 2003).

As a child, Helen was fascinated by her grandmother's sterling silver rosary and customs such as praying to St. Anthony to find a lost object and placing a St. Christopher medal in the family's car. Fond memories and perplexing questions makes researching and writing books for Catholic audiences sheer pleasure. Her research partner has been her mother, Gloria Brady Hoffner, who shares her interest in the beauty of Catholic traditions and treasures.
