Laura Weddle grew up as the daughter of a tenant farmer on tobacco farms in central Kentucky. In her early years the family moved almost yearly. But in her seventh grade year they moved to Anderson County, Kentucky and remained there until she graduated from Western High School in 1952. She was given a full scholarship to Georgetown College, Kentucky, where she majored in speech and drama. At Georgetown she met her future husband and soul mate, Leo Weddle, and they were married in 1955, shortly after her college graduation.
Laura began writing fiction after retirement from teaching. Her short stories have appeared in numerous regional and national literary magazines. Two of her stories were nominated for the Pushcart prize. Her first published short story appeared in Appalachian Heritage Magazine and received the Denny C. Plattner award for Excellence in Fiction.
Laura's first book of short stories, entitled People Like Us appeared in 2008 and was selected for the 2008 Carnegie Center Reading series,"New Books by Great Kentucky Writers."
