Richard McCarty

Richard McCarty is Professor of Psychology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Earlier in his career, he taught at the University of Virginia (1978-1998) and worked at the American Psychological Association (1998-2001). His primary research interest is in the use of animal models to understand the etiology and treatment of mental disorders in humans. He continues to teach undergraduates and learns much more from them than they do from him. His first book, "Stress and Mental Disorders: Insights from Animal Models", was published by Oxford University Press in 2020. He is working on a second book with a tentative title of "Stress, Health, and Disease". When he is not in Nashville, his favorite place to be is Paris, where he has developed a particular fondness for the 14th arrondissement.
