My published books are the outcome of my drive to tell specific stories; first, of a people and their cuisine in Cooking From the Heart, the Hmong Kitchen in America; second, of the history of a house and its people, Spindrift, a History. Recently my involvement with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders and the books they love has compelled me to try my hand at writing middle grade mystery-adventure.
My current project is titled, Savannah Banana Saves the World. At the core of the story is the fight against racism and extremism.
When eleven-year-old Savi and her best friend Ev discover an evil plot to detonate bombs at celebrations of diversity across the country they race to expose the villains. The threat gets really personal when Ev, who is Black, receives a picture of a noose with the message, You All Will Die! written on the top. The deeper they go, the more Savi knows it is her job to solve the mystery before it is too late.
