John Meyer has long delighted audiences of all ages as a vocalist and a poet. He has also shared his knowledge of poets with a wide range of groups. His teaching about the poets has resulted in poems he has composed about his favorite poets, in which he incorporated not only information (and sometimes whimsy) about the poet, but also the poets’ more famous lines. These poems were published in POEMS ABOUT POETS.
A compilation of a lifetime of writing poems is published in LIFE'S RIDE. You'll enjoy the poems and find it as inspiration to record your life's journey in verse.
During his career Meyer has authored numerous articles and seven books and has presented at many large national conventions and small regional venues. When he’s not teaching poetry or leading sing-alongs, he is writing or presenting communication workshops with Interpersonal Communication Services, Inc. for organizations and businesses, most notably, veterinarians.
Meyer holds a bachelors degree and a masters degree in communication from the University of Wisconsin, a PhD in communication from the University of Minnesota, and post-doctoral work at the State University of New York at Buffalo and in London, England.
For nearly 30 years, he served as Professor of Communication at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh following years of teaching at Hamline University and as a high school English teacher and drama and debate coach in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
His ride through life has been a positive one – full of travel, humor, politics, love of family and friends, and his current life on the ocean in La Jolla, CA. Readers will see these themes reflected in the collection of his poems in LIFE’S RIDE – an inspiration for readers to also pen their life experiences in verse.
