Thomas J. Anastasio

I was born in Washington, D.C., in 1958 and moved with my family around the east coast and Canada until age 22, then moved around the U.S. on my own and then with my wife until age 32. We finally settled in Urbana/Champaign and have worked at the University of Illinois ever since. My textbook Tutorial on Neural Systems Modeling, published by Sinauer, grew out of the research and teaching in computational systems neuroscience that I undertook here for almost 20 years, from about 1990 until 2010. Since then I have moved my research into a different kind of computational modeling. A side project I undertook with three grad students, in which we made an analogy between memory formation on the individual and collective levels, has resulted in an interdisciplinary monograph that has been published by MIT Press.
