Tim Dare LLB

Tim Dare is head of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He lives an hour south of Auckland, New Zealand, on a (very small) farm with his wife Justine (a philosopher at the University of Waikato), two Kunekune pigs and eight sheep. He is the proud owner and captain of Valeta, a 28ft wooden keeler, designed by well known Auckland designer, Col Wilde, in the 1940's, and built in Panmure by a famous wooden boat builder,Owen Woolley. He trained as a lawyer, clerking in the New Zealand High Court and working briefly in law, before doing his doctorate in philosophy at the University of Alberta, Canada. He is on the Editorial Board of the journal Legal Ethics and is book review editor for the Australian Journal of Legal Philosophy. He is Chair of New Zealand's Health Research Council Ethics Committee and serves on a number of cinical ethics committees. He has published on the philosophy of law, philosophical methodology, ethics, and applied and professional ethics.
