Samer S. Shehata is the Colin & Patricia Molina de Mackey Associate Professor of Middle East studies and Middle East Studies Program Coordinator in the Department of International and Area Studies at the University of Oklahoma. He was born in Alexandria, Egypt and studied in the UK and the US. In order to complete his first book ("Shop Floor Culture and Politics in Egypt"), Shehata worked as a "winding machine operator" for over ten months in two Egyptian textile factories. He has written numerous academic and policy articles on a range of subjects including domestic Egyptian politics, the Muslim Brotherhood, and US foreign policy toward the Middle East. He received a BA from the University of California at Berkeley, an MPhil from the University of Cambridge, and a PhD in Politics from Princeton University.
