Richard Cheatham

Richard (Dick) Cheatham was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1930. He served as an artillery officer during the Korean War, then worked in his family's boat business until he received a powerful call to preach at age thirty. He was designated a Wells Scholar while studying for his Masters of Divinity degree, and awarded a National Preaching fellowship by the Methodist Church while earning a doctorate in church history and preaching. Dick served 37 years as a church pastor while also teaching at various colleges and seminaries. His first book, Can You Make the Buttons Even? was well-received as a guide for small groups or individuals. His second, The God Makers, was rated "a page turning mystery" by many readers. His third book, The Pilgrim Messiah, is a novel drawn from the Gospel of Mark. It focuses upon the humanity of Jesus, and creates a continuous story line consistent with Mark's gospel. Dick and his wife, Diane are retired and living in San Antonio, Texas. He still plays classical and jazz clarinet. His CD, A Preacher Plays: Beethoven to Bourbon Street, has earned more than $7,000 for world Hunger Relief.
