Carlos E. Wilton

Carlos "Carl" Wilton is a retired Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) minister. Until December, 2021 he served as Transitional Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Hawley, Pennsylvania. Prior to that he served as Pastor of the Lamington Presbyterian Church in Bedminster, New Jersey, and for 27 years before that as pastor of the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey. He also served as Assistant Dean and Director of Admissions at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, Iowa, and as Associate Pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Toms River, New Jersey.

He holds the B.A. degree from Washington College, Maryland; the M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary; and the Ph.D. in Divinity from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. His doctoral dissertation was on the Reformed understanding of ordination as diakonia, or servanthood.

Dr. Wilton has served as an adjunct professor at Princeton Theological Seminary and at New Brunswick Theological Seminary, teaching Presbyterian Church (USA) Polity. He is the author of several books of sermon resources based on the Revised Common Lectionary, as well as Principles of Presbyterian Polity. He is a frequent contributor to Homiletics Online, providing the majority of that publication's sermon illustrations.

He is married to the Rev. Claire Pula, also a Presbyterian minister. They have two adult children, Benjamin and Ania.
