O.K. So I just deleted my Bio, no big deal it has been around for 15 years and is not important for today. So those that know me realize that the Cook Islands have been my main subject for the last 15 years. So let's use this Bio as an update on the Cook Islands. As of today September 1st 2022 the current status of travel to the Cook Islands is somewhat bleak. The Air New Zealand Non-Stop direct flights from Los Angeles to Rarotonga have not been re-introduced. Air New Zealand has no date as to when flights may resume, so that being the case, here are the options. If you wish to travel to the Cook Islands your option is to fly to Tahiti and take the Air Raro flight from Tahiti to Raro and back. The other option is to fly from Los Angeles to Auckland and then book a flight to Rarotonga from Auckland. Both options are more expensive than the "old" weekly flight to and from Rarotonga and Los Angeles. I have been trying to compile information to update my Cook Islands Handbook, but have been unable to get much in the way of response from the Tourism Board in Avarua. It is like since there is no flight from Los Angeles, we no longer matter to these people. Sad but, I think it is still worth it to travel to the Cook Islands, even if the current airfare is 4-500 dollars more than the LA to Raro airfare, which, by the way was subsidized by the Cook Islands Government.
