Susan Berg

Meet Susan Berg, Ph.D.

Call her a transition expert. An award-winning international speaker, facilitator, and now author of the book Choose on Purpose for Twentysomethings, Susan Berg brings real world experience and solutions to the issues facing young people today. The same career-long focus on mastering change that has won praise from Fortune 500 giants and renowned humanitarian non-profits alike, is now helping to guide twentysomethings through the minefield of early adulthood.

Berg earned her Ph.D. in Adult Education from UCLA , a Masters from Northwestern University, and her BA Cum Laude from Miami University in Ohio. Initially an educator and school administrator in California and Texas, she honed her focus on managing large team change projects. Those skills transferred perfectly to her more than ten years at Unisys Corporation, where she was awarded the prestigious Chairman's Innovation Award for preparing the workforce for the work of the 21st Century.

Susan Berg is Managing Partner and Founder of Compass Associates, where she helps business teams work through "un-clarity", and confusion. From corporate CEO's to college grads, her unique blend of inspired creativity and step-by-step goal-getting helps people to contribute sooner.

Susan Berg is also the founder of the Choose On Purpose Institute, an organization dedicated to promoting life solutions for twentysomethings. This huge demographic of young people faces a unique set of challenges brought on by both their own mindsets and by a rapidly changing world. Growing up takes longer, as 30 becomes the new 20.

Susan's early research found lots of career guidance out there, but it was too old school, complicated, boring, or unfocused. What was needed was a fresh look at the needs of twentysomethings, starting with choice-making skills and coping strategies, but also including a great, big reality check.

Using a friendly, coffee shop chat approach, Susan helps readers get off the computer and into the wider world by moving people towards conversations that change their lives. For millions of young people, it may be just what's needed to walk confidently into full-blown adulthood.

The author is joined in her work with twentysomethings by her daughter, Kirstin Berg, a twentysomething herself who brings an "in the trenches" perspective to Choose On Purpose. Kirstin leads a cadre of her peers as both participants in the ongoing study of twentysomethings, and as mentors lending support and guidance through the Choose On Purpose Institute.
