Jane Wharam, author of 'Emotional Intelligence: Journey to the Centre of Your Self', says that the study of Emotional Intelligence changed her life. Because she didn't have the balance between her emotional and rational thinking process quite right - effectively, either shutting down her emotions or being unable to control them - she often made bad life choices and had difficulties in relationships. Having hit rock bottom through a series of financial, health and emotional issues, she realized that she had to change the way she lived or spiral into despair.
Wharam believes that the writing of the book saved her sanity and is now passionate about helping others cope with stress, anger and change and knowing what makes them 'tick'. Using her own experiences as a guide, she shows how to forgive oneself and shake off the hold that regrets have on us - and she does so brilliantly with wit and humor, albeit sometimes dark, to deal with attitudes in the face of adversity. The book is a layperson's guide to emotional intelligence using real, down-to-earth examples in an approachable style, with practical exercises and visualizations to help the reader think emotionally - and cope better with stress, anger and change. In it she explains how setting up clear channels of communication with oneself and others is the only way forward to a peaceful, balanced and happy existence.
When Wharam isn't writing, she runs training courses in Emotional Intelligence and conducts tutored meditation sessions for stressed workers locally, and also in London, England. Her motto of "every day is a gift" is reflected in how she now lives her life every day. There is something of value to be learned by all of us in her writing and humorous anecdotes.
