I'm a Minnesota writer who started writing poetry in high school. My Aunt Mary would call me and tell me she needed a poem for a bridal shower gift. From that point, I knew some day I would be a writer. Professor Geri Chavis from the University of St. Catherine, where I graduated with a degree in Social Work, encouraged me to publish my first book.

"Ruby Slippers: Finding Your Way Home from Emotional Abuse" was published in 2008. The book has taken me on a beautiful journey from being presented at the National Poetry Therapy Conference, nominated for the Minnesota Book Award and presented at the JWI International Conference on Domestic Abuse in Virginia. I have given presentations at conferences, womens' organizations and shelters on: "Healing Through the Art of Journaling", "Emotional Abuse", "Messages of Healing" and poetry readings. My most rewarding work has been at the Womens' Shelter teaching women how to express their feelings through journaling.

From lemons to lemonade, I shared my story with readers from all over the country who have responded with beautiful letters and reviews. My goal is to help other women in domestic abuse situations. My book is not about "clicking your heals" but instead taking control and changing your life on your own terms. Just like Dorothy, in the Wizard of Oz, ruby slippers becomes a symbol of a way out.
