Xavier Somerfield

Xavier Somerfield was born in the coal mining hills of Appalachia in West Virginia. He is the author of Coming through the Wintersweet, Analemma Days, Ridges of the Clouds (a novel), Finches in the Gloaming, and Summer on Shallow Point, a Chesapeake Bay Love Story. "My first novel, Ridges of the Clouds was started in about 1975. It took me 33 years to get it completed. My wife and I raised 5 children and much of my time was spent doing that," Somerfield says. "I spend countless hours writing. Poetry consumes a great deal of my time and I have received several compliments and one award for my poetry." "One of my favorites, and I hope yours too, is 'Echoes' from Analemma Days," Somerfield says. "Each poem is meant to be short, powerful in meaning, and colorful. If I can master those three ingredients, then I am happy with it. I get tired of reading long poetry. I also think if it takes you less than a year to write a poem, you are just throwing words on paper. Now, I'm guilty of that also. But in recent years most of my poetry books take about a year and a half to write." Xavier Somerfield has over a dozen titles ready for various stages of edit. Let's hope we see the new titles about every six months or so for many years to come!
