Rick Rickman

Rick Rickman is a Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer whose work is often featured in such magazines as Newsweek, Time, Sports Illustrated and National Geographic. He's a fixture at the Olympic Games and other top sport competitions. His passion, though, is taking pictures of senior athletes.

Rick has spent the past two decades chronicling the lives of aging adventurers and amateur athletes who seem to defy the conventional wisdom about what it means to grow old in our society. His photos reveal a beauty, power and grace not often associated with senior citizens, but through Rick's keen eye, age -- and agelessness -- take on new meaning.

Rick is the co-author of "The Wonder Years," a stunning collection of photographs and inspiring stories about older men and women pushing themselves -- and our own expectations of what the future has to offer -- in extraordinary directions. The subjects of "The Wonder Years" are men and, more often, women of all backgrounds from across the United States, who grew up before well-organized community sports teams became commonplace for kids, and long before Title IX gave girls equal time on the diamond, the track and the court.

For many years, Rick has been the official photographer for the National Senior Games, which arrived on the West Coast for the first time Aug. 1-15, 2009 at Stanford University in Palo Alto. The games move to Houston in 2011

Rick Rickman lives in Southern California. When he isn't traveling on assignment, you can usually find him surfing at his favorite beach, San Onofre.
