David Shoemaker

David Shoemaker is the Wyn and William Y. Hutchinson Professor of Ethics and Public Life, and a Full Professor in the Sage School of Philosophy, at Cornell University. His research is on a variety of topics in moral philosophy, including agency, moral responsibility, moral psychology, humor and morality, and the relation between personal identity and ethics. He is the author of over 65 academic papers and is the author, co-author, or editor of several books, including Personal Identity and Ethics, Knowledge, Nature, and Norms (with Mark Timmons), Responsibility from the Margins, Wisecracks, The Architecture of Blame and Praise, Personal Identity in the Wild (with Shaun Nichols), and the series Oxford Studies in Agency and Responsibility.
